SiteMinder Experts List

Wednesday, February 10th, 2010

2310866391_eef389df61_mOver the past year we’ve seen a definite rise in the number of SiteMinder conversations on social networks. Whether it’s job opportunitiestechnical issues, or SiteMinder tips, the social universe is talking about the enterprise security application we’ve all come to know and love (always love, right? ;-) ).

One thing we’ve noticed that the SiteMinder community can do a better job of is helping people to understand where to look for help with their SiteMinder needs. On the Twitter side, we’ve created a list of SiteMinder professionals who frequent that network. These are folks we’ve interacted with or accounts that tend to generate interesting links related to SSO and enterprise security.

Of course, you can also sign up and participate in our SSOhelp community.

By the way, good news for those of you who are interested in Radiant Logic VDS: there’s a list for you too! Follow our list of Radiant Logic professionals.

We’ll continue to grow both lists over time, and if you feel you should be added then feel free to drop us a line @coreblox.

RSA Conference 2010 (a.k.a. Information Security Heaven)

Tuesday, February 9th, 2010

If you’re in the market for a security conference over the next couple of months, look no further than the big one that’s happening in San Francisco! On March 1-5 the granddaddy of all enterprise security conferences will be taking place at the Moscone Center when RSA Conference comes to town. Todd & I had the chance to visit the Moscone Center a few years back for salesforce.com’s DreamForce event, and it was a gorgeous venue. The speaker list for this year’s event looks impressive:

– Scott Charney, Corporate Vice President for Trustworthy Computing, Microsoft Corp.

– Art Coviello, Executive Vice President of EMC Corp. and President of RSA, The Security Division of EMC

– Enrique Salem, President and CEO, Symantec Corp.

– Dave Hansen, Corporate Senior Vice President and General Manager, Security Business Unit, CA Inc.

– Al Zollar, General Manager, IBM Tivoli Software

– David DeWalt, President and CEO, McAfee Inc.

– Phil Dunkelberger, President and CEO, PGP Corp.

– Philippe Courtot, Chairman and CEO, Qualys Inc.

– Herbert (Hugh) Thompson, Ph.D., Chief Security Strategist, People Security and Program Committee Chair, RSA Conference 2010

– James Bidzos, Executive Chairman, VeriSign Inc.

How’s that for a list of heavy hitters? :-)

The CoreBlox team is excited to follow the conference and hear what the future holds for some of the key technologies we service such as SiteMinder, Radiant Logic VDS, and CA Identity Manager. These gatherings are a great way to break free of the day-to-day and engage with your peers in a social setting. For more information, check out the RSA Conference 2010 registration form.

CA SiteMinder Expands Open Source Support

Monday, February 8th, 2010

opensource_logoThis morning I noticed an interesting item in my news feed that CA SiteMinder has been expanded to support web applications and services running on JBoss Enterprise Middleware. This means that popular platforms such as JBoss Enterprise Application Platform, JBoss Enterprise Portal Platform, and JBoss Enterprise SOA Platform are now fully in play for CA SiteMinder customers.

Anyone who is familiar with enterprise software can tell horror stories about its acquisition & maintenance costs, not to mention the frustration that comes when an internal team identifies a bug that must await a formal fix from the vendor because its root cause lies in the source code. Only those who have experienced this pain can fully appreciate the value of the open source model. The CoreBlox team leveraged an open source platform during the early stages of the company and we were continually impressed by the passionate community that backed it up and was always willing to help. It’s encouraging to see a large corporation like CA recognize the importance of extending SiteMinder support to those who choose to build their infrastructures (either solely or partly) on open source technologies. Well done, CA!

CoreBlox.com Changes

Tuesday, January 19th, 2010

If you’re paying close attention to the CoreBlox web site (and I know you are!), you might have noticed some recent changes we’ve made to better answer that age-old question: what the heck do you guys do?? The truth is that most of our consulting work centers on some specialized enterprise security concepts and technologies that our visitors have never heard of. So to offer a little more guidance, we’ve added a new CoreBlox Technologies section. The sub-pages in this section include:

Keep watching for more changes we’ll be deploying in the coming weeks. In the meantime, we’re here to help. Please don’t hesitate to contact us if you’re in the midst of planning new initiatives, or even if you just want to bounce some ideas around. Also check out our SSOhelp community where some of the brightest minds in the security space are exchanging ideas and helping each other through tough challenges.

Attention Sales People

Thursday, October 15th, 2009

help_wantedYesterday we posted a new opportunity in our Jobs section. We’re looking for a salesperson to help prospect and sign engagements for our professional services team. Sales experience is required, and experience with enterprise security is even better. But most importantly, we need someone who is dependable, honest, and hardworking. CoreBlox is blessed with a wealth of enterprise security knowledge and no shortage of clients who will speak to the quality of our work. We know there is plenty of opportunity in this space, and we need someone who can be dedicated to going out and finding it for us. The role is part-time and compensation is commission-based, so it could work out well for someone who is currently between jobs.

Are you interested? Do you know someone else who might be? Please help us spread the word via Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, good ol’ fashioned e-mail, or word of mouth! No recruiters please.

Video: Extending SiteMinder with RadiantOne

Tuesday, August 25th, 2009

Last month, our very own Todd Clayton presented a webinar for Radiant Logic called Evolve Your SiteMinder Portal Through Virtualization—Without Breaking the Bank”.  He discussed the benefits of using a RadiantOne virtual directory with CA SiteMinder, some of which include:

  • Identify, correlate, and integrate identities from multiple user populations across security domains.
  • Publish different profile views for SSO, authorization, and profile management.
  • Create unified profiles of all users for different application contexts.
  • Build an abstraction layer so SiteMinder can access attributes without any changes to your existing infrastructure.
  • Develop an environment that easily accommodates future expansion and new business requirements.

Please feel free to contact us for more info on how these two products can work together.

Introducing the New CoreBlox Web Site

Friday, November 21st, 2008

Today we are pleased to announce the launch of our new website.  For those curious as to why we redesigned our site, here are a few reasons:

  • We wanted a cleaner, easier-to-use site
  • We wanted to change the focus to reflect what we have been spending most of our time working on (professional services, social/community sites, etc.)
  • We wanted to convey a small company vibe and inject our personality into the site
  • We wanted to showcase the clients and partners we work with, some of which are Fortune 500 companies
  • We wanted to integrate our use of Twitter
As always, if you have any feedback for us, we’d love to hear from you.
-Dave

It pays to tweet up!

Thursday, August 21st, 2008

Lately the CoreBlox team has been making a push to be more visible and interactive with our Facebook user base, our colleagues in the Identity & Access Management (IAM) space, and the social networking community at large. Some of the new places you’ll find a CoreBlox presence include:

Based on this excellent post from Joel Postman of Socialized, I learned that merely establishing a presence isn’t enough. According to Joel, we should:

“Explain why you are on Twitter and who is responsible for your company’s presence there. Consumers want to talk to a ‘real person,’ and not a bot.”

The short answer to the ‘why’ is that we want to network and grow our business, and we’re convinced that the way we’re going to get maximum traction with anything we do (especially our social apps) is to be as visible and accessible as possible.

As for the ‘who’: I’ll be handling most of our social web interactions for CoreBlox with some much needed assistance from my colleague Dave Saraiva. In addition to maintaining the CoreBlox presence, Dave & I are both on Twitter talking about our kids, music, sports, and the things we’re passionate about in our daily CoreBlox lives.

Our investment in a social presence is already paying dividends. Earlier this week our I Have Kids application was featured in the popular mommy blog MommyGoggles.com. Yesterday I was thrilled to receive this tweet from Mass High Tech, a popular and well-respected regional trade journal:

CoreBlox Hits the Big Screen @f8

Thursday, July 24th, 2008

There is little doubt that a small company’s success in the Web 2.0 world depends on the quality of the solutions it builds. Bring a sub-par solution to market and chances are you’ll quickly find yourself back at the drawing board trying to come up with a new idea. If you need proof, just have a look at all the solutions that ended up in the TechCrunch Deadpool.

Of course there are other success factors at work beyond solution quality, and one of them is name/brand recognition. It’s a timeless marketing question that existed long before Web 2.0 – how do I get my name and my solution out there for the world to see? (After all, one could argue that ending up in the Deadpool isn’t so bad because at least you got to TechCrunch in the first place.)

Recently CoreBlox made a concerted effort to let people know about our I Have Kids Facebook application. We started donating money to charity on behalf of our user base; we launched a campaign on the Facebook ad network; we launched a support site on GetSatisfaction.com; we even created a Twitter account where you can follow our application and some of the interesting kid-focused news articles we find. The results have been very positive, as our user base has grown to over 40,000 users from all over the world who have rewarded us with a 5-star application rating. In a Facebook application world where often the most popular applications allow you to Superpoke your friends or turn them into zombies, we’ve manged to find a niche with our “serious” app.

But sometimes the best kind of publicity is the stuff you don’t expect. Take what happened to us yesterday when a friend who was attending Facebook’s f8 event happened to notice a familiar logo on the presentation screen during Mark Zuckerberg’s keynote address. We were fortunate in that photographer Brian Solis was able to get an excellent capture of the moment:

(CC) Brian Solis, www.briansolis.com and bub.blicio.us.

(CC) Brian Solis, www.briansolis.com and bub.blicio.us.

Take a look just to the left of the pink ribbon near the center of the screen and you’ll see our bright blue & white CoreBlox logo. :-)

Zuckerberg’s keynote emphasized that Facebook will reward applications that provide the most value, so we’re confident that our I Have Kids community will continue to grow in the coming months. In the meantime, thanks to all our 40,000+ users who helped CoreBlox to play a role in the f8 event!
